The World Telecommunication & Information Society Day is celebrated with the objective of making information more accessible to people and increasing the global reach of technology across all nations and socio-economic strata. The information explosion, as else where in the world, has resulted in both the inflow of technology and building of expertise in Pakistan. This expertise, if harnessed properly and calibrated with our educational pursuits, holds the key to very exciting possibilities.
We at Techaccess believe in a knowledge-based economy and are alive to the social implications of industrial initiatives. For a productive economy the gap between an innovative idea and its utilization as a product or service forms the critical measure of sustenance and dynamic survival. An economy cannot be dynamic and resilient unless its education is aligned to real world challenges. Every element of this ecosystem must contribute to sustain the ecology as a whole. Techaccess for instance, has created inroads within the industry and academia by encouraging exposure to production environments and goals. This, apart from other activities, also includes creation of Techaccess-NUST Research & Development Center as a joint collaboration with NUST SEECS to seed entrepreneurship and also serve as a platform to encourage new products and services.
As the technology advances, a need arises to bridge the digital divide between the urban haves and the rural have-nots. We must employ ICTs to bring closer the urban and the rural, and make “haves” out of the “have- nots”. We can harness the power of technology to better our cities and our lives as better communication means faster solutions. Better control and better foresight, become the tools to mould a better world.
