I must appreciate ITU for its thought provoking theme,
“Better city, better life with ICTs”. The theme indeed,
promotes the importance of greener, healthier and
prosperous cities. The endeavor will contribute towards
a better future for the mounting population on the planet.
In developing countries like Pakistan there is a critical
need for promoting awareness around the subject. The
issue of making our cities eco-friendly is highly
addressable to avoid not only health related threats,
risks and vulnerabilities, but also to promote a secure,
educated and amicable environment for generations to
come. This will have to be done through identifying and
developing preventive measures and practical tools
around energy consumption and waste management
as well as maintaining a well disciplined civic structure.
The Telecom sector has an essential role in this. We at
Relacom Pakistan take our civic responsibilities very
seriously and are pitching in, while believing that
implications of technology in the right direction can
pave the way towards improved lives in our cities.
Environment sustainability through resource
management and operational efficiencies will enhance
quality of life for residents whereas proper planning in
this context is the key to it.
Lastly, we need to understand that planning is good but
actions are more important. For us at Relacom, it’s a
part of our vision and we will keep striving towards
making our cities a better place to live in.
