The World Telecom & Information Society day is a day for the ICT Industry to ponder over its past performance, as also to look forward to future prospects in line with the evolving society and technological advancements. As a responsible corporate citizen, Multi-Tech Systems welcomes the theme of WTISD 2010, titled; “Better City, better life with ICTs.” No doubt that Info-communication Technology has accelerated growth in almost every sphere of activity and facilitated the teeming millions of this planet in a big way. It also has the potential of addressing environmental issues in an effective manner and on a grand scale. But ICT also has its share of negative fallout. For one, the world is being littered every year with millions of tons of discarded PCs, handsets, printers, monitors, etc. The heaps of this silicon hell harbor hazardous elements which pose serious threat to environment if not recycled or disposed off in a responsible manner. The electronic waste is being produced at a fast pace as new technology replaces the old one in a short time. Resultantly, the facilities to dispose off discarded gadgets are inadequate even in the highly developed countries, what to speak of the developing world. While employing ICTs to facilitate ‘Better City,’ it is equally important to also address the issue of silicon waste which is directly causing environmental degradation on a massive scale. As a provider of cutting-edge IT & Telecom solutions and services, MTS is at the leading edge of technology and fully alive to the gravity of the situation. On our part, we implement ICT solutions in total compliance to industry best practices and with a keen eye on the impact of technology on the environment.
