Mohsen Tavakol
President, Ericsson Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd
On behalf of Ericsson Pakistan, I offer heartiest
felicitation on the World Telecommunication and
Information Society Day marking the founding of ITU
and signing of 1st International Telegraph convention in
1865. This year’s theme "Better city, better life with
ICTs" is indeed a vision for Information and
Communication Technologies (ICTs’), which no doubt
act as catalysts for a more productive and better life. At
Ericsson we are using innovation to empower people,
business and society. Our mobile and fixed networks,
multimedia solutions and telecom services, make a
real difference to people’s lives and the world we live
in, and are an essential part of a sustainable society.
With our vision guiding us, we see a future in which
telecommunication forms the basis of a 21st-century
information-based infrastructure. We foresee our
technology having the power to create a more
sustainable planet, transform industries and empower
people around the globe.
Essentially we believe that mobile technology is a key
infrastructure which can deliver a number of services
reliably and cost effectively, narrow the digital divide
and enrich the standard of living. Without any doubt,
telecommunication addresses human needs and can
support people's livelihoods, healthcare services,
personal safety, besides entertainment and personal
interaction. With technology we are also empowered
with access to a wide range of information from
educational information through to warnings of natural
disasters and relief. Many a times we see that these
things are taken for granted in countries with developed
communications networks, but they make a significant
difference to societies which have historically operated
without them.
In Pakistan, Ericsson has been instrumental in shaping
communications by introducing leading technologies
and services since its inception. Ericsson was the first
company in Pakistan to introduce mobile telephony
technology in 1990, and is the only telecommunications
supplier with over 18 years of experience in supplying,
installing, commissioning and maintaining mobile
networks across Pakistan today. With strong
experience and relentless commitment, Ericsson is
well-positioned to continue contributing towards
telecommunications success and evolution in Pakistan.
Our mission, “Innovating to empower people, business
and society”, takes us beyond frontiers to deliver the
best in the networked economy.
Our aim is to offer solutions which are simple, relevant
and efficient, but just as importantly, open up people’s
horizons. Driving sustainability, environmental, social
and economic development, on all fronts is at the heart
of what we do.

Asia-Pacific key to 50 billion connected devices

MAY 14, 2010 Categories: Industry, Technology
When it comes to dramatic changes in the ICT industry, the
numbers tell the story. When once we were impressed by
thousands or millions of customers, we now talk about billions. An
all-communicating world is getting closer, a world in which Ericsson
sees 50 billion connected devices by 2020. China and the
Asia-Pacific region will have a key role..
