Pakistan
Mohsen Tavakol
President, Ericsson Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd
On behalf of Ericsson Pakistan, I offer heartiest
felicitation on the 63rd Independence Anniversary of
Pakistan to the Government of Pakistan, the nation and
Ericsson strategic partners. The telecommunications
industry has witnessed tremendous growth over the
past decade and is now crossing the 100 million
cellular subscriber base. The number of broadband
users is also approaching one million. Pakistan has
been placed 6th in terms of quarterly growth and 10th in
terms of annual growth in the global broadband market.
The share of telecom sector in the GDP is about 2%.
These are very encouraging figures and a symbol of
pride for the nation.
Ericsson has, for over 40 years, been instrumental in
shaping communications in Pakistan by introducing
leading technologies and services. It was the very first
company to bring the mobile telephony technology for
the first cellular operator of the country in 1990. The
same year, Ericsson provided the 2nd cellular network
for the 2nd operator of the country. The first
international gateway located at Karachi and one of the
largest IGWs in the country, was also implemented by
Ericsson in 1983. In 2004, Ericsson undertook the
largest end-to-end network deployment across
Pakistan, the single largest nationwide mobile network
rollout of its kind.
At Ericsson we are using innovation to empower
people, business and society. Our mobile and fixed
networks, multimedia solutions and telecom services
make a real difference to people’s lives and the world
we live in, and are an essential part of a sustainable
society. With our vision guiding us, we see a future in
which telecommunication forms the basis of a 21st-
century information-based infrastructure. We foresee
our technology having the power to create a more
sustainable planet, transform industries and empower
people around the globe. With strong experience and
relentless commitment, Ericsson is well-positioned to
continue contributing towards telecommunications
success and evolution in Pakistan. Our mission,
“Innovating to empower people, business and society”,
takes us beyond frontiers to deliver the best in the
networked economy.
Our aim is to offer solutions which are simple, relevant
and efficient, but just as importantly, open up people’s
horizons. Driving sustainability, environmental, social
and economic development on all fronts is at the heart
of what we do. On this auspicious day, we reaffirm our
commitment to the growth of the Pakistan
Telecommunications Industry and improvements in the
quality of life of the people, through bringing cutting-
edge technologies to the country.

MAY 14, 2010 Categories: Industry, Technology
When it comes to dramatic changes in the ICT industry, the
numbers tell the story. When once we were impressed by
thousands or millions of customers, we now talk about billions. An
all-communicating world is getting closer, a world in which Ericsson
sees 50 billion connected devices by 2020. China and the
Asia-Pacific region will have a key role..
